Colin Hutton was born in Glasgow, Scotland. After leaving school he trained as a photographer and film-maker at Bournemouth and Poole College of Art & Design.
In 1995 he won the Fulbright TEB Clarke Fellowship in Screenwriting (judged by William Goldman - writer of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid) Since then he has written scripts for some of the UK’s leading film and television companies, such as BBC, Channel 4, Ridley Scott Associates, Tiger Aspect, Carlton, Discovery Channel, Scottish Screen, and Granada TV.
Colin has continued to work as a photographer during this time - the images on his website www.huttonimages.com represents some of his work from the last 15 years.
More recently Colin has moved into directing. His short film ‘A Small World’ (2002) premiered at the 17th Brest Short Festival in France. His short film 'Gravity' (2004) has screened at over 25 film festivals around the world including Melbourne, Milan, London, Tehran, Buenos Aires, Berlin and Manhattan, picking up two Best Short Film awards along the way.
Colin directed 'Stir it Up', a half hour drama for IWC Media & Channel 4 Television. It was transmitted in September 2006 and was pick of the day in both Time Out & The Sunday Times.
He is represented as a writer and director by Jess Sykes - Independent Talent Group (formerly ICM), London
